A couple years ago, my dear friend, Tracy, and her family decided to pack up their gorgeous home in a beautiful neighborhood and move out to the outskirts of town. I told her she was crazy, that she would get sick of the drive to the kids’ school, that she wouldn’t be able to run and get ice cream at Braum’s on a whim, that the isolation would be too much….until I first visited the land on which they would build their home. This must be what Oklahoma heaven looks like. The house will sit on a spot with views for miles in all directions. To the south, they overlook the downtown Tulsa skyline and the Arkansas River…to the north, they look over the rolling Osage Hills. Just west of their home sits a large barn with stalls to house horses they will take on trail rides around their land. Deer looked at me curiously as I pulled up the long gravel road leading to the house. A dock and paddleboat sit at the lake just a four-wheeler drive away down a path from the house. The opportunities for adventure and memories to be made are infinite.

It wasn’t just the spectacular beauty that drew Tracy to the property though. It was the vision of what family life would be like out there. I don’t think I’ve ever met siblings who are closer than Halle, Morgan and Laurel. The bond they share, the mutual respect and admiration they have for one another and the continuous laughter coming from them warms my heart whenever I’m around them. As a mom of three myself, I always walk away hoping that my own kids will grow up sharing a close friendship like these kids do. Halle, Morgan and Laurel’s adventure out in the country has only just begun, but as they’ve shared close quarters while their new house is being built and ventured into a new chapter of life together, it has already brought their family closer than ever.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing this family a few times and each time it truly feels like a gift. The sessions are spent running around, exploring and non-stop goofing off and cracking up. I am grateful for my job that allows me the privilege of capturing a moment in time for families and I am especially grateful that Tracy’s family is in my life. Their friendship means the world to me and their family is a true inspiration. I love you, “S” family!

I’m going to try to be better about updating my blog in 2012 so I can share some of the beautiful families I have been privileged to photograph. I’ll start though with my family’s holiday card. Sadly, the holiday season was so busy with capturing other families that I never found the time to do a session of my own kids. I ended up waiting until after the holiday rush and did a New Year’s card using pictures from last summer. Although it’s late and the pictures don’t have the best lighting, the images and memories make me smile. The best things in life truly are right in front of you. Best wishes to all for a 2012 filled with your own reasons to smile!

I don’t know how many times I can say a session was one of my favorites, but this session certainly exemplified everything I love about my job and how lucky I am to get to work with the people I meet. Baby Harper is absolutely adorable and reminded me of a happy little Gerber baby. Her mom had thought of incorporating live butterflies into her session and although we struggled to get the little critters to cooperate with our initial vision, it ended up working out beautifully. I absolutely love the way her images turned out and especially loved meeting this dear family. Thank you, precious Harper, for a perfect Saturday morning.

One reason I don’t blog as much as I would like is because of the time I usually spend writing up the post and deciding which pictures to include. I’m going to try to get in the habit of posting more frequently though and I think if I just do short and sweet posts with fewer pictures, I may be able to stick with it more easily! We’ll see how this goes!

For a quick post tonight, I thought I would share a recent picture of baby Cole. I shared his courageous story here and wanted to show how precious, happy and healthy he is today! His uncle walked in just as we were finishing up and I was able to get a shot of the only two boys together from that side of the family. The grandmother can’t wait to get that image framed in her house. I’m working on talking her out of the idea of doing a wall size mural out of it! :)

You may remember these adorable brothers from here when I photographed them when they turned one. They have been some of my absolute favorite clients ever since I first met the boys when they were babies. (Sadly, my old blog isn’t live anymore, so I can’t refer back to their newborn session. Trust me, they were too cute for words!) I was amazed then by their parents and how they so calmly and patiently juggled three little newborns. I am in awe today though of how they have bravely faced and overcome tragic and terrifying obstacles.

Shortly after our session last summer, one of the boys contracted meningitis. Alex was seriously ill and hospitalized for weeks. It was an incredibly frightening time as the doctors weren’t sure whether or not Alex would survive or, if he did, if he would make a complete recovery. As if that wouldn’t be enough for parents to deal with, they also had two other babies at home who needed care. With immeasurable love, support and prayers from so many people, Alex has made an inspiring recovery and is now a happy, healthy, busy two year old who loves nothing more than to run around with his brothers.

Courtney and Justin, I know the last year was an incredibly long road and it was filled with so many emotions. It was such a joy for me to be able to see Alex laughing, chasing dogs and playing with sticks and to think about how far he has come since those scary, dark days one year ago. You have such a special family and your boys truly have forever touched my heart. Love and huge hugs to Alex, Cade and Connor!

I have known this beautiful family of seven since they were just a family of two and have loved watching both their family and their love grow over the years. Their children are just as precious on the inside as they are on the outside and couldn’t be sweeter, kinder or more loving with one another. How lucky and blessed they are to grow up with built-in best friends! There will never be a shortage of someone to play with, talk to, laugh with or hug. I loved every minute spent with them and feel honored to be able to capture this time in their lives.
